Raise your hand if you’ve even dealt with gnat issues? If not, you are one of the lucky ones that haven’t dealt with these annoying pest. Unfortunately I’ve had my struggles with gnats, zooming across the room, showing up whenever I turn on a light, or making a sweet appearance in the sink.
The unfortunate solution to this is never easy if you are on a budget but rewarding once you identify the problem with the gnats.
Apple cider vinegar, soap, disinfected, and fresh soil can be the key solutions to the annoyance of these pest. I started with apple cider vinegar. I made two bowl mixtures and placed it in two different areas. I gave this solution about seven days and watched to see if there was a decrease in gnats. It significantly decreased BUT did not stop the gnats.
Next, was checking the bottom of the trays at each plant site. VIO-LA! I found it! Unfortunately one of my potted monstera plants had water gathered and dead gnats in the pool. The smell (a fishy scent) was a big indication when I lifted the pot and found the dead gnats. I just quickly soaped and rinse the pan and dried it.
For extra measures, I just cleaned the whole entire area with a vacuum. Followed by a wash clothe and sprayed disinfected where the ground around the plants to make sure there were no dead gnats left behind.
I also changed a few of my potted plants out since it was time, and their roots were starting to get overcrowded. This also made big difference. There will still be a few gnats wondering around, and you can bring out the apple cider vinegar out for safe measure–but I just kill them at site.
If you want to invest into a machine to kill anything else, they do have several options online that kill gnats, flies and much more. If I resort to this device, you’ll get a full review on it, and I’ll share my thoughts. Other than that, I hope these small steps help!
