Who here gets anxiety when it time comes to setting up the Christmas Tree and decorating? I agree, it’s a lot of work, time and a good workout. I’ve come to find that the #1 important thing is to TAKE YOUR TIME and get ORGANIZED.
- Before you start anything, take your tree out, assemble and FLUFF! Get all your spare pieces and spread them all out. This will help later when your ornaments go up. (Hubby came in handy when it came to fixing the lights, thank you Lyle!)
2. Bring out your ribbons and fabrics. Dress that baby up! Don’t strain the ribbon, let it ruffle, let it wrinkle, the less perfect the better. I know ribbon is usually the LEAST expensive part of your decor piece, so if you find ourself running out–go to the store and buy more (Joann’s, Michaels, Hobby Lobby always has coupons. Don’t ever buy anything full price!!)
3. LAY OUT ALL YOUR GOODIES! See what you’ve got. This will prevent you from double purchasing and having to make extra trips. Also buy WIRE and WIRECUTTERS!! Wires ARE THE KEY TO KEEPING ALL ORNAMENTS TIGHT TO THE BRANCH!

4. Here is the order list I went with my ornaments, you don’t have to go by what I did but this helps me with the fullness of my tree.
- bulbs
- short foliage (magnolia flowers), cotton circular balls, wicker balls
- forest animals, bird nest, frosted fruit

Wire doesn’t need to be perfect, just needs to be secure enough!
5. Next is your slightly longer stems, like the reindeer antlers, cotton stems, and slightly longer foliage.

6. Get personal! Personalize your tree with your favorite words, kids names, family name! I spray painted mine silver to match my decor, originally the color was black.
7. Picture perfect! Find mini frames highlighting the most memorable part of your year.
8. Place your topper AND YOU ARE DONE! (as you see in my photo, nothing is placed perfect, I LIVE for the randomness and misplacement.)

If at any point it gets too overwhelming, remember to step back, take a break and come back at it when you are relaxed. I also posted in my “Highlights” under “Christmas Tree” on Instagram to show you videos of what I did. (Instagram: wendylaven.studio)
I hope this helps, and remember your tree is unique to you, so its already perfect!!
