Moulding Your Own + DIY Home Renovation

Customizing anything can be a pain. only because sometimes it requires much more effort and work. Now a days anything that does require custom work requires money if you’re not doing it yourself. Also, going the route of going with what the store only provides doesn’t seem so fun either, so you’re either stuck with the “cookie cutter” or customizing job from a professional.

Which brings me to this big share on this post, DIY! I always envied the beautiful moulding in magazines I’d see, wondering how much that cost, how long it took to get the pieces crafted and etc. Lyle started bringing pieces to me, moulding pieces with different sizes and shapes–constructing like a jigsaw a mould that would go around our doors. Really unsure what he was doing, he started sharing the options of what he thought I might like. Sure enough, he nailed it. So here I’m here to share the deconstruction of what he did.

Next we move to painting moulding. Initially we thought we’d spray, which consist of prepping, masking, tapping off sections of the hallway, the list went on. Knowing this would take awhile to prepare I started asking if there were better options besides using a spray gun. YES, YES there was! The simple use of a roller!

The biggest concern for us was having streaks, a weird or odd finish to the roll but after doing some research we tested several rolls and found the best one that left a nice clean matte, NO streak look.

I hope this post gives some encouragement in any project you do around the house, that sometimes its trial and error. We don’t all have to be born with the niche to know how to renovate, that we all can learn. I hope this helps and remember to stay inspired!!
